Sophie La is the founder and creative director behind Velar Origins, a design studio devoted to crafting interiors with soul — spaces that tell a story, celebrate materiality, and reflect the lives of those who inhabit them.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Sophie trained as an interior architect and has worked with renowned global firms including Woods Bagot and the Paris-based boutique design agency Jouin Manku.

Over more than a decade in practice, she has led the design of award-winning, internationally recognised projects, presenting to panels for both the World Architecture Festival (WAF) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

Guided by a fascination with place and identity, Sophie founded Velar Origins as a return to the domestic realm — an exploration of how design can express our innate sense of belonging. Now based in Île-de-France with her family, she continues to create homes that embody authenticity, comfort, and meaning.

Home has always carried deep sensitivity for me — not simply as a place, but as a feeling of belonging.

My roots come from two very different worlds: a father who fled a war-torn place and a mother who grew up on Gadigal Country. I carry a story of arrival and inheritance — of finding home on land that has always been home to others.

Through years of living far from where I began, I’ve learned that home can exist beyond walls — in a memory, a light, a sound that brings stillness.

Velar Origins was born from this belief: to design spaces that evoke emotion before style. Through light, texture, and honest materials, we craft environments that quietly restore comfort, connection, and belonging — spaces that feel like home, wherever you are.
